What To Bring When Applying

All applicants for GMHA public housing must be 18 years of age or older, or an emancipated minor.  GMHA only requires that the applicant complete an application and submit it to be added to our waiting list.

SPECIAL NOTE

Approximate waiting list times vary by bedroom size and admission preferences. An Occupancy Specialist contacts applicants once their name comes to the top of the waiting list for the appropriate bedroom size. Applicants should contact GMHA if there is a change in their address or any other information previously provided to GMHA which might affect their waiting list status.

Do Applicants Have To Sign A Lease?

All applicants must sign a lease if they are offered and accept housing with GMHA (a security deposit may be required). Prospective residents should review the lease with a GMHA representative to gain a better understanding of their responsibilities as a tenant as well as GMHA's responsibilities as a landlord.

Are There Any Selection Preferences?

GMHA has implemented local preferences in tenant selection from the waiting list. A "preference" is an existing situation which qualifies an applicant for a priority position on the waiting list once the applicant has been determined eligible for HUD-assisted housing.

A preference does not guarantee admission. The applicant must still meet or exceed the Authority's tenant screening criteria for eligibility. GMHA applicants can receive only one preference point.  Preferences will be given to applicants who are otherwise eligible and who, at the time all other eligibility factors/information is verified, meet the criteria for the following local GMHA preference:

Living in Gallia County; or,

working or hired to work in Gallia County; or,

attending school or enrolled to attend school in Gallia County.
